Commitment to Safety & Training
|
Established in 1970 as a family business Watkins Steel has grown from its humble beginnings to become a thriving force in the industry. Earlier this year Desmond Watkins took over as the Director of Watkins and has his sights set even higher for the future. Occupying 2,000 square meters of space; Watkins has completed over $40 million dollars of construction works over the past 10 years. This work has included the design and construction of mezzanine floors, shelters, and extensive handrail systems, refurbishment of buildings, offices, and workshops. |

COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND TRAINING Watkins Steel is devoted to providing a safe working environment for both our employees and associated personnel. Staff are regularly involved in risk assessment and are adequately trained, thus reducing the exposure of risk to themselves, plant/equipment, environment and the public. It is our intention to execute all works in a safe and controlled manner and regular conferences are held with staff in regards to safety. Always looking to the future - we encourage people to expand their horizons and gladly have numerous apprentices on our staff at all times. |
The Watkins Steel Management Team shares the same view - their staff are the company’s greatest asset and like any asset growth is encouraged. Watkins is committed to equipping its workforce with up to date industry information and invites staff to participate in mutually beneficial training.
Watkins Steel’s strong commitment to training was recognised at the Construction Training Queensland Training Excellence Awards 2006 as we became recipients of The Abigroup Contractors award for Commitment to Training South East Queensland.
Specialising in metal work and small structural steel; with a handling capacity of approximately 100 tonne of steel per month and thirty employees capable of factory and on-site work Watkins Steel is well equipped to handle a vast range of work.
We have recently expanded our capabilities to include Fire Damaged buildings; this is chance for us to demonstrate our ability to adapt to any given situation. Whilst the challenge this type of work presents is a deterrent for many; Watkins Steel views it as yet another opportunity to implement our skills in a complex environment to achieve optimal results for our clients.
A fleet of eleven vehicles services our sites and encompasses nine utes; a crane truck; a two tonne and a five tonne truck. With such notable facilities and skilful service it is little wonder Watkins has such a loyal client base.
At Watkins we know that continued growth and flexibility are paramount to surviving in today’s highly competitive market. Management regularly participate in development sessions to assess the present and plan for the future.
Advancement and Improvement are two key focuses that drive the Watkins Steel Team and all staff are encouraged to share their ideas at fortnightly meetings; we believe knowledge is power and a powerful team is a productive team.
